Wong Kar Wai Named Head of Beijing Film Festival Jury


‘The Grandmaster,’ Wong’s most up-to-date launch, gained the pageant’s prime prize in 2014.

Hong Kong auteur Wong Kar Wai will head the competitors jury of the eighth Beijing Worldwide Movie Competition, set to run April 15-22 within the Chinese language capital.

The federal government-backed occasion revealed the appointment Monday, promising to announce extra jury members and the total competitors lineup within the coming weeks.

Usually, an official number of 15 worldwide movies compete for the Tiantan Award, the pageant’s prime prize. Wong gained the award along with his final launch, martial arts drama The Grandmaster (2014), which earned $45 million in China.

Wong will subsequent direct Tong Wars, an hour-long interval drama collection for Amazon. Produced by Paul Attanasio, the collection is ready in 19th-century San Francisco and tells an immigrant story centered on the clashes between organized-crime households within the metropolis’s Chinatown.
